Overview
If you want to be the sport manager of tomorrow, you will need a strong background in both sport and business management.
KIMT University’s Bachelor of Sport Management teaches you the business and management skills you’ll need to meet the demands of the growing sport industry including:
- facilitating participation in sport
- controlling the production of sport-associated goods and services
- overseeing sport venues and facilities
- the strategic development of local, regional and national sport organisations
- managing sporting events
- sport sponsorship and marketing.

You’ll develop both your theoretical knowledge and applied management skills. The wide range of courses on offer gives you an understanding of sport in its social, cultural and organisational contexts. You’ll also strengthen your communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Our sport management programme will give you a solid grounding in:
- social, cultural and international foundations of sport
- strategic sport management, leadership, operations, venue and event management and governance
- ethics, diversity and inclusion
- marketing, media and communication
- finance, accounting and economics of sport
- legislation and policies impacting sport
- business aspects of sport.
Real world experience
You’ll gain real-world experience through work placements – giving you over 240 hours of practical experience. These experiences will help you develop industry contacts and gives you an advantage with potential employers.
Lecturer expertise
You’ll learn from passionate lecturers who have in-depth academic knowledge of sport management and extensive practical experience. We offer first-hand knowledge and experience of applying sport management principles and concepts in the sport industry.
- The 2020 Student Experience Survey results for this programme found that 92% of students on this programme highlighted that they had an excellent “entire educational experience”, 85% believed assessment tasks challenged students to learn, and 88% highlighted that the programme had given them “confidence to learn independently”.
- Between 2018 and 2021 the average number of students enrolled in the programme was 121 (headcount). In the 2020 academic year, 72% of students in the first year of this programme continued within the programme and across the whole programme 89% of courses were successfully completed.
Course structure
A bachelor’s degree at KIMT is three years (180 credits) and consists of various learning activities:
- Projects – you choose the projects that fit your learning objectives.
- Sports management concentration courses – the solid foundation you need a sports manager.
- Basic courses – including Foundation Course in Physical Education, mathematics, physical sciences and Business Economics.
- External learning activities – Industrial training, courses at other universities, or a foreign exchange program.
First year
During the first year, you become familiar with the areas of business management foundation courses. You predominantly develop your competences by taking 10 basic courses like Financial Accounting, Business Law, Business communication, Foundation of Human Skills, Physical Education etc.
Second year
In the second year, you spend approximately a third of the academic year on capstone projects in one of the themes.
You also take five courses linked to the management areas of expertise and combined with business research methods and sports management courses.
Third year
The third year is all about strengthening your vision and identity and about demonstrating your competences in the Final Bachelor’s Project along with you get a solid foundation on your major. You will be taught subjects like- Sport Business, Sport Event Management, Professional Development for the Sport Industry, Sports Broadcasting & Journalism, Sport Entertainment Management, Sociology of Sport and Exercise, Sport and Physical Activity in the Social Context etc. courses. In individual project you show that you are able to analyze and research a business case relevant to sports management by formulating
a clear research question. You collect and analyze data, define possible causes and explanations for the issue and provide recommendations for improvement.
What You'll Study
The thesis project is an independent piece of research based on a topic related to a student’s
degree programme. Students are encouraged to focus on a problem confronting industry or a
related area. The individual project provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate how
the in-depth skills and knowledge they have gained during the taught courses can be used to
provide solutions to practical problems. The individual project should contain a degree of
original research.
PROGRAMME SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- In order to qualify for the studies in KIMT University an applicant must have secondary school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Learner must be 18 years or older at the beginning of the course.
- An application describing Why are you interested in this program.
- English requirements: If a learner is not from a majority English-speaking country must provide evidence of English language competency.
Assessment and verification
We assess both the theoretical and practical elements of the course. Assessment is through written assignments, a profile of evidence of teaching standards and observed teaching. All modules within this program are internally assessed by approved center and externally verified by KIMT University. To achieve a pass for a module, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgment that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor. The Assessor will provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.
METHOD OF ASSESSMENT
Knowledge, understanding and intellectual skills are assessed through a combination of course assignments and presentations. The weighting for the final overall assessment for each course taken shall be as follows:
- 90% Assignments
- 10% Presentation and viva
At the end of the program each student also submit a research project paper
Programme modality
The program is studied 100% online through the virtual learning platform with tutor support.
You will receive excellent support from the academic team, including your programme manager and your supervisor who will be with you every step of the way.
